After being graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Zhejiang in China, Shen Yuan participates in the Chinese “avant-garde” movement. Shortly after participating in Beijing’s historical exhibition, she decided, in 1990, to leave China and installed herself in Paris, where she joins her husband, the artist Huang Yong Ping. Shen Yuan expresses her feelings about exile and melancholy with modesty and decency. She invites the public to think and reflect about some situations without imposing a value judgment. Her works evoke the moving, the language, the memory, and the omission. They create places for poetical encounters between cultures.
