A partir de 1952, « des lignes que l’on peut qualifier de « géométriques , sont brusquement apparues, pour envahir progressivement la presque totalité des œuvres » de François Morellet. Celles-ci ont été la base de tous les « systèmes » de création développés par l’artiste. Dans les années 2000, François Morellet amorce une série intitulée avec humour « Strip-Teasing » . Celle-ci est né du « plaisir pervers et peut-être sénile à provoquer l’affrontement , sur un même segment de droite, de deux antagonistes invétérés, la ligne et la bande ». Sur fond blanc, la finesse des lignes tracées au crayon est alternativement interrompue, contredite ou mise en valeur par l’épaisseur de larges bandes peintes à l’acrylique noir. En 2006, Morellet expliquait ainsi le titre de cette série : « strip-teasing rappelle à la fois le déshabillage et le taquinage d’une bande. » L’œuvre 2 trames (10°-100°) strip-teasing 4 fois n°3 mêle un système de trame développé depuis les années 1970 à de larges aplats qui métamorphosent le trait en bandes. Ici, une bande d’acrylique répétée quatre fois est superposée à la trame du trait de crayon.<br /><br />Since 1952, ‘geometric’ lines suddenly appear and gradually invade almost all of François Morellet’s works. These lines have been the basis of all the creative “systems” developed by the artist. In the 2000s, François Morellet began a series humorously entitled “Strip-Teasing”. It originates in the “perverse and perhaps senile pleasure to provoke the confrontation, on the same segment of a straight line, of two absolute antagonists, the line and the strip”. On a white background, thin pencil lines are either interrupted, contradicted or highlighted by the thickness of large black acrylic paint strips. In 2006, Morellet explained the title of this series as follows: “strip-teasing recalls both the act of undressing and the teasing of a strip.” The work 2 trames (10°-100°) strip-teasing 4 times n°3 diverts a grid system he developped since the 1970sby superposing four times a strip on top of the lines.
