Kausalkonsequenz

By engaging with the clear architecture of the Langen Foundation, Alicja Kwade has conceived an exhibition that extends well into the vast premises and emphasizes the transition between inside and outside. “When I encountered the building, I had a strong sense of horizontality and continuity; you only experience the architecture as you walk through it. For this reason, I almost exclusively show works that contain temporal intervals and develop in a sequence of different states.” She tries to break these causal chains and make all works readable from both sides: everything is beginning and end and vice versa. The catalog created on the occasion of the exhibition Kausalkonsequenz is rather an object, a monolith reminiscent of the light concrete building. With installations in public space, sculptures, photography, video and sound, Alicja Kwade constantly questions how reality is perceived or accepted through social agreements.
