The series simulates two drops of rain falling into a pool of water and their resulting waves and interference patterns evolving over time. As the waves propagate further through the water, they lose energy, tending from chaos toward diffuse equilibrium.
The water molecules are illustrated by clock-hands and show the surface reaction to the tiny splashing drops shaking up the whole system and initiating a myriad of microscopic interactions. Temporarily, even perfect concentric circles are formed, representing interference effects that can be observed with all types of waves, not only waves of matter but also of light and gravity.
In her series ENTROPIE, Alicja Kwade employs watch hands on paper to measure and represent time to capture fleeting moments that challenge our perception. Each watch hand symbolizes one hour, revealing the interplay between time and entropy—measuring disorder and absence of order. Anchored in specific moments, Kwade’s ENTROPIE explores how the repetitive, seemingly arbitrary rhythm of watch hands shapes our understanding of reality. It invites us to contemplate the intricate relationship between structure and chaos, unveiling the mysteries of our very own existence.
