Untitled (accidental chorus) is selected from the ultraviolet series that I began in early 2021. This group of paintings stems from a fascination with the electromagnetic spectrum, specifically the larger portion of which the human eye is incapable of seeing. It is this vastness of the inaccessible -that which we can sense but cannot see- that allows the drama in these works to appear. Restricted to only the ultraviolet spectrum the human eye is limited to a very specific color palette which inevitably shapes the various ways in which we interact with the world. The inevitable question is how might one access the light beyond our limited spectrum? Using this quandary as the starting point for a painting I suggest allowing the possibility of accidents to accumulate in such a way that they appear rhythmically, with tempo and levity, somewhat like the sound of a distant chorus.
