Hicham Berrada

Born in 1986 in Casablanca (Morocco), Hicham Berrada lives and works in Paris and Roubaix (France).

Employing a scientific approach, Hicham Berrada’s work combines intuition and knowledge, science and poetry. He draws inspiration from scientific protocols to explore phenomena using “warmth, cold, magnetism, light like a painter is using his pigments and brushes.”

His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions: at the Centre Pompidou and the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; at the Abbaye de Maubuisson, France; in the gardens of the Château de Versailles, France; at the MAC VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine, France; at the macLYON, France; at the CCC OD (Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré), Tours, France; at the MRAC (Musée régional d’art contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon), Sérignan, France; at the Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Tourcoing, France; at the ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien), Karlsruhe, Germany; at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Germany; at MoMA PS1, New York; at the ICAS (Institute of Contemporary Arts), Singapore; at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm; and at the Banco de la República, Bogota.

He has participated in several biennials : Taipei Biennial; Yokohama Triennale; Biennale de Lyon; BIM (Biennale de l’image en mouvement), Geneva; and Biennale de Yinchuan, China.
The artist has also performed at the Villa Médicis and the MAXXI (Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo), Rome; at Les Abattoirs, Toulouse, France; at the MAC VAL, France; as well as during the Nuits Blanches, Paris, Brussels, and Melbourne. He has undertaken several residencies, notably at the Villa Albertine, Miami; at the Villa Médicis, Rome; and at the Pinault Collection, Lens.

In 2023, Mennour dedicated a solo exhibition to him. Hicham Berrada also participates in group exhibitions at the Bourse de Commerce, Paris; at the Museum of Art in Haifa; and has realized numerous site-specific projects. In 2024 he is participating in the group show “Arabofuturs” at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.

Hicham Berrada was nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize 2020.
